  • Dry Wall Joint Cracks...

What is the best thing to use for the little and sometimes not so little cracks that appear in the drywall corners. I have used several things, but they all seem to dry out and crack again.

Nothing has ever been better than good ol paper tape! Crease it in the middle, mud each side and embed the tape in the compound. Then trowel as thin as you can and let dry. Then sand and mud over again in thin applications. Finally feather out from the corner to make a smooth transition to the final wall surface.

Yes, you might consider retaping. Since it is a corner, you could probably go right over the top. For step by step instructions on taping a corner, go to the site listed below.

Thanks so much for the link! Looks like a lot of work, but the repairs I found on the site are likely just the ticket to fix my upstairs! I was just browsing after posting for help.

Go over a crack exactly the same way you would tape a joint. It takes practice to get really good, but anyone can do it with patience. Watch the video at the website below and give it a try. Good luck!

as I said before the paper tape has always treated me good. that yellow or white nylon sticky tape never worked right for me. if the joint decided to move the nylon actually ripped along the seam - paper would not!
