  • Drywall Damage

My wife ripped down some old wallpaper, and one area pulled the paper from the sheetrock. The attached pictures explain it best. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best method to repair it? Its about 16" long and 6" wide.

just apply a couple of very thin "skim" coats of sheetrock mud. Then sand even with the rest of the wallboard. Prime with a good primer.

well, they sell all kinds of paint good, better and best. choose a reputable name not off the walls names - sears, glidden, sherwin-williams, dutch Boy, etc. they're all good.

          torn wallboard - primer

I've found that a good quality PVA drywall primer works quite well over dry joint compound. Brush or roll on and try not to extend it much beyond the actual patch.

But before you get that far, check those torn areas and make sure there are no bubbles or areas of loose paper before you mud. Use a sharp knife to score around and pull off loose stuff. I find that brushing on a good oil based quick drying primer over the paper before mudding gives some insurance against further bubbling when you put on the mud.

Then, you're ready for the PVA.
