  • Gap where gas line meets house

I just noticed that there is a gap around the gas pipe where it enters the clapboards of my house. The gap is about 1/2 inch all around the pipe. I am not sure what was there before, but I was looking for suggestions for the best thing to use to plug the gap.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Go to Lowe's/Home Depot and in the plumbing department (sometimes in the furnace supply area) you will find a type of plumbers putty, it's blackish and can be molded. You kneed it until it becomes soft and then push it into and around the hole, you will be able to form fit it over and around the pipe to close off the gap. It will stay flexible for a looooong time allowing for expansion and contraction over the years ahead.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.

duct seal - another non hardening putty used for electrical work can also be used

The easiest code approved method of sealing that gap is to use expansion foam.
