I believe you are talking about steel support posts which you sometimes need for a basement to support the upper floor load. I bought a couple of 36 inch ones, and they cost $20 each. You can find these at any harware store.Comment

If i understand the question correctly, what you are calling jack posts are commonly called lolly columns in the trades. Commonly they are in two sections with a pin that is put in to make the coarse fit, then they have a screw at the top to work as a house jack to make the final fit.
They are available at most lumber companies, large hardware stores or the major home improvement stores.
