    Where to place humidifiers?

I have forced air heating in an open concept, two-story house. There is no humidifier on the furnace, so I have two portable "Holmes" humidifiers instead. These units have a fan the blows the humidified air upwards. Where is the best place to put them? At the moment, I have one at the top of the stairs and the other near the cold air return. There is only one cold air return in the house and it is on the ground floor not far from the stairs.

Try placing them at the hot air outlet register. That way the hot air is humidified as it passes over the humidifier. The minute water droplets may condense into the cold air return and cause other problems.

Id stay by the cold air return . that way it can get over the whole home. As it is almost all humidifers go on the cold air return.
