  • Sanyo heat pump making a humming noise

I always figured that Sanyo made AM/FM radios, but I now own a house that has a Sanyo split system heat pump for the lower level heating and A/C. Here's the problem:
When I turn on the unit, the fan outside starts up and then I hear about a 3 second electrical buzz. This buzz kicks in about every 60 seconds. Unit still heats my basement but takes forever and never really gets past 66 degrees. Any ideas what this could be? The model number is KHS1822

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like your compressor either has a bad capacitor or needs a start kit. You may just be heating your basement with aux heat - which is probably just a portion of your heat kit. Have you tried just running it in emergency heat? Does that heat it to your set temp?
