well for those of us just arrived from the UK where ac is unheard of!
I have an 210 v ac wall unit which is old and dead...if I find one the same size, is it a simple job to remove the old one and fit the new one in the hole in the wall? are such units a standard size? is any one make better or are there makes to be avoided? sorry for daft questions but in the UK summers only last 5 days and everyone just sweats and lies on the floor...i prefer the American way - AC! any ac advice gratefully received.

AC in the UK is unheard of?? I thought all of the UK operates 210, 380 volts AC in the houses for normal everyday appliances. Never heard of houses running on DC. Anyway any home airconditioner that you'll find is suitable for through the wall mounting. Calculate your temperature relationship to find the BTu requirement for sizing the unit. Anything 28,000 BTu or above will be 240 volt.
