My heating system pipes start making banging sounds every once in a while. Is it my circultor pump failing and how to replace it myself. Pump # 007fs 3250 rpm max water temp 240

sir, what you are experiencing is steam or water hammer. check to make sure your expansion tank's bladder isn't busted. as the water heats up it expands. inside the expansion tank is a rubber bladder with air on one side. its function is to absorb sudden increases in pressure which the banging is.

It only happened 2 times in a 2 month period. When it happened I hit the pump and it stopped making noise. The noise happens in the room just above the furnace. everything is only 5 years old.
