  • Powerpile thermostat

    I have a Honeywell thermostat operating for a floor furnace with a 500 milllivolt powerpile which appears to have become nonfunctional. There are available replacement thermostats which operate with either 250 millivolts or 750 millivolts. Which of those would be a suitable replacement for my current thermostat, without doing damage to the unit or having to replace the existing thermopile?

    get the one for the highest voltage. typical thermopiles have an output of 600-750 millivolt.

      Thermopile systems

      A thermopile should not be confused with a millivolt THERMOCOUPLE. The thermopile is a system of dissimilar wires that when, terminated in a junction and heated produce a DC voltage. A thermopile thermostat should not be used on a 24volt AC control system ONLY a thermopile output. Difference is the thermopile thermostat does NOT use a heating anticipator which is a resistance to the system. The thermopile thermostat is just a set of contacts that open and close according to temperature of the room.
