Toyotomi OPT 91 and 101 fuel lifters

There are very few parts available for these Toyotomi lifters. Toyotomi only provides 6 items as repair parts for these units. At this time my distributor, Rural Energy Enterprises in Anchorage is out of all repair parts for these lifters.

Most dealers have very limited experience with the lifters, as they are very reliable. However, in the event of a problem with the unit, your options are limited.

Just the other day in a remote village in
Western Alaska, a power outage occurred. This outage caused a power surge that took out the circuit board on two of these lifters. When the fuse was replaced on both units, it burned right away. This is an indication of a failed circuit board. The circuit board costs $300, if it was available. Since the distributor does not have this part in stock, the only solution for the customer is to replace the whole lifter, $550.

I would be very suspect of a used unit from Ebay or any other source, as you never know the amount of time in service. I should not bad mouth Ebay too much, as they are a good source of parts.

This situation is just one of the supply chain problems we are having in the
US these days. Slow down of the mail, problems with China, and our relations with
Mexico are all part of the problem. It is my estimation, we are in for a tough time in the near future. Forums like this one are a great source of information to help with supply chain problems.

    Hey Tom,

Thanks for sharing this information about the Toyotomi OPT 91 and 101 fuel lifters. I can see how the limited availability of parts is a real challenge, especially with the supply chain issues. It’s frustrating when you’re in a situation where parts are hard to come by. Thanks again for the helpful info, it’s definitely good to be aware of these things!

Hey Tom, thanks for sharing this! It's pretty concerning to hear about those circuit board failures in Western Alaska. Really tough situation for those customers, especially in such a remote location - $550 for a full replacement is no small expense.

If you look at the "schematic" of the OPT91 in the service manual, you'll see a surge protector. If that took the hit from the power outage, it's probably shorted. Has anybody thought about checking it out? Should be easy to remove it & measure it's resistance. Toyotomi seems to have used all through-hole leaded components in that generation of products. The circuit board in my BS36-UFF has no computer; it's all off-the-shelf components that could be bought at Radio Shack or any other on-line electronics store.

That's really good to know! It definitely makes things easier in case of a shortage, as sourcing replacements from electronics stores or online shouldn’t be too difficult. This adds a lot of flexibility when dealing with repairs.
