Tappan 2 ton central air with heat problem

Thermostat to heat-auto outside unit runs turned outside unit c/b off and it shutsdown. now feel heat but goes off with blower and comes back on (two to three minute cycles off than on). Thermostat to heat-on doesnt seem to cycle house getting warm. replaced thermostat same problem???? unit app.3yrs.old

Is this an Air conditioner or heat pump?

Is the furnace gas or electric?

WE cant try and fix it if we dont know what you have there INFO INFO it helps a lot.
