  • How to determine which Type I have

I need a fuel pump for my Laser 560, but there are two types to pick from. How do I determine which one I have? The only depiction I can come up with is in the serial number. The serial is 04255 H0FF560B. Am I to assume I have a type "B" since the end of the serial is 560B?

    Thanks,

Yes, Bustech, you are correct. The Lot number you gave shows you have a type B heater , so you should get a type B fuel pump.

Too be honest, I didn't know there was a different type L560. There does appear to be a Type B main circuit board as well. I do not know what differences there are in the different Types.

Be aware that there is a different fuel line for Type B pumps as well. The type B model uses a fuel line the is the same as the Laser 56 (20478041). The type A model line is much smaller in diameter.

Good to know the fuel line differs between Type A and B. Do you know of any other differences besides the line and circuit board?

Looking at the parts list, those are the only differences I see between the A and B types.

You can get a parts list in the back of the Owners manual or the Service Manual.

The Laser 560 had a very short run. It was a solid unit as was the Laser 56. I can see why Toyotomi discontinued the line. They were moving towards a complete line of Positive Pressure units. The complication with that idea is the Laser 730 series unit.

I will stop here, as this idea needs it's own thread.

Interesting... I originally bought the 560 because it was the only unit at the time that would take the internal tank, which was handy in my case. Then I got a 275 gallon tank and eliminated that aspect. Live and learn I suppose.

Anyway, I received the new fuel pump today, installed it, and I can hear it thumping away now, but the unit won't fire. SMH.... Also the display is really dim now. I assume that I messed up the ribbon when I put it back together although I don't see an issue. It does seem fragile though. Oh well. On to the next diagnosis..

If you can hear the pump thumping, you are not getting fuel to the sump. Air locked filter, low fuel level or float stuck on magnet.

Plenty of good clean fuel in the sump, new fuel pump, float not on the magnet. I took the fuel line off of the burner and cycled the power on, when it called for ignition, I get very little fuel out of the line and lots of air bubbles. I double checked everything twice. Unless there's a pinhole in the fuel line somewhere that I can't see....?

Also my display is very dim. It was fine before I took the ribbon out to access what I needed to. Maybe that is that issue. This thing isn't that complicated, but it's kicking my butt right now. My old Monitor never gave me this many issues.

How old is the Laser 560? Did it have hard service and run on High for long periods of time? If so there could be carbon around the end of the nozzle that could block the fuel from getting into the burner.
I see this all the time when the heater is undersized and runs on High for long periods of time.

We will assume you have eliminated the igniter as being bad??

I haven't checked the igniter yet as I'm not getting any fuel into the burn chamber.

Yes, this year has been the coldest since I bought the 560 five years ago, so it has run on high for long periods of time in my lackluster insulated 560 square foot workshop. However I installed a new burner mat (2nd time) and did a complete service on it this past October. I also ran a hard wire down the nozzle when I was checking the fuel flow. I think my next step is remove the entire sump and fuel pump and go over everything again and bench test it. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something.

Is there an Ohm test for the igniter while I have everything apart?

We need to see a picture of your fuel tank and filter, that includes the location where it goes through the wall. Toyo’s are just to reliable for you to be having all these different problems.

You need to go on the net and download a manual for your L560. It will come as a manual for all Toyotomi Laser heaters. Not the Owners Manual, but the Service Manual. The manual has all electrical values. It’s a must to have a manual.
